Numerous commenters and emailers have written in to recommend that both newcomers to Ubuntu and those looking for a particular fix check out Getting Started with Ubuntu 10.04, the first in a planned series of community-edited manuals that will accompany each successive Ubuntu release. It covers all the new stuff in Ubuntu 10.04, the basics of setting up multimedia access and the apps you want, and a lot more, and it looks pretty darned nice for a Linux manual. It's a free PDF that should work on most e-book readers.

Want to contribute to your favorite Linux distro, but not sure where to start? Don't worry. It's easier than it looks, and you'll find plenty of help.

Not a developer? That's not a problem. There's enormous demand for Linux distro writers, artists, translators, advocates to work events, educators to introduce Linux to their students, students and parents to push Linux in schools, etc. If your only skill is interpretive dance, you might have a problem finding a place to contribute, but other than that you can find some way to help. Developers, of course, are very welcome too!
